Mercy marked the first collaboration between Choreographer Ronald K. Brown and Composer Meshell Ndegeocello. The piece focuses on seeking compassion, which leads one to have mercy. In this work, the dancers embark on a physical journey towards justice in response to an assault that resolves in joy and surrender.
Mercy premiered on July 5, 2019 at Bard Summerstage and is co-commissioned by the Richard B.Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Carolina Performing Arts, UNC Chapel Hill, and The Joyce Theater’s Stephen and Cathy Weinroth Fund for New York.
